My Personal OpinionOverall, using Social Media is unavoidable, given the increasing amount of people using up-to-date technology. Therefore, everyone should try to adapt to this form of New Media and not just stick to Traditional Media. The older generation, whom might have grown up with Traditional Media can take up courses and try other ways to learn about New Media, so as to better enhance their communication with their tech-savvy children.
Referring back to the Case Study that I have done, I personally feel that Mr Tommy Jordan's action of shooting his daughter's laptop with a pistol may have been too far-fetched. Perhaps his discussion with his daughter over this matter has failed several times before, and like what the teenagers from Teens React have said, "It's either their way, or the highway." That is why, I believe that families, both young and old, need to have a give and take mindset. Parents should not be too strict on their child to the point where their child will not have their own space to express his/her views. In addition, children have to respect their parents and if they are not pleased with something their parents have said or done, they should sit down to have a face-to-face chat, so that a compromise can be reached. This will still be a better alternative to talking behind their backs, and having a cold war upon their parents finding out about the online verbal personal attack towards them. |
